i used to rub my head with my fingers as an ocd thing like pulling hairs out except i rub the area vigourously now i have big bald patches because of it but tiny little vellus hairs, its been nearly over a year since ive been rubbing and still no hair growth will they sooner or later grow back normal or do i need to do something to promote it thanks for any help

The lanugo is the hair around the hairline. This is transitional hair, meaning just a bit coarser than the finer hairs found covering the body and finer than the hair on the scalp. This hair is very weak and breaks easily. That is why you see many women who either wore hairpieces (wigs) or have extensions put in, eventually their hairline recedes.
I wouldn't worry about it if it is only that hair. If it is also the scalp see a doctor for advice. The act of pulling the hair is called trichotilomania and is an Impulse Control disorder and as you say a form of OCD and is actually treatable with antidepressants such as Zoloft or Prozac. I have had several clients who have suffered from this disorder and have found relief once they were given the correct regimen of medications.
