I have extremely thick bi-racial hair. How can i style it without damaging it and what helps it grow

OK so you have my prob...lol, and no don't put a lot of oil and grease in it, I mean our hair isn't that nappy. so oil will just make it looking very greasy and that's not cute. Wrap your hair at night after straiting it to that you won't have to re-straightening it in the morning. And if you are going to grease you hair only use it on your scalp to help it grow. There is also hair mayonnaise that helps. And if you want it strait, and i know bi-racial hair is more soft and curlier a perm might burn it out, so i would suggest getting a light texturizer and that will cut the time of doing you hair. And don't put anything in you hair or on your hair that breaks it off ; your hair may be growing, but if it keeps on breaking off you really might not even be able to see it. and if you're going to braid it or get it in flat twist.. make shure not to get them done so tight because A: just in case you didn't know having them done very tight will actually decrease your hair growth and b: they are ver harsh on your hairline. So be careful. Cuz you eva seen them African girls dat always be gettin there hair braided n have no hairline?!!! (observation) loll

Hope good luck~

Don't put to much heat on your hair and oil or grease should help it grow.

I would just find a good salon to take care of your hair.

So that means you're going to have to reach in the Ethnic Aisles for these hair products, or going to a good Beauty Supply store. Honestly a lot of the products that were originally ear-marked for African-American Hair are showing up in other marketplaces.

First, Invest in a can of Olive Cholesterol by Hollywood Beauty. This is a conditioning creme that you apply to your hair after shampooing it. Let it set for a good ten minutes on your towel dried hair, then wash it out. They'll be less frizz, and it'll leave your hair softer, with a silky shine. You should use it like once a week. Next you have to invest in a good light oil that you can put in your hair every day. I recommend Hot Six Oil, and it will help ease the styling process.

Styling after that is up to you. Curling Irons and Flat Irons are perfectly fine for your hair as long as you don't use them too often. Try to substitute with cold wave rods or magnetic rollers with a little hairspray instead. And don't forget natural curls are TOTALLY in style now.

The general rule is to have fun with a variety of textures, clips, color, and hair ties availible. I'm sure in your experimenting you'll find something unique.

Keeping your hair natural will help it grow. If you want to straighten your hair use a ceramic flat iron because that heat is less harsh on your hair. Try wearing braids; you can keep your hair natural and the braids will help it grow. Just make sure to get your braids by someone who is experienced because if they are too tight it will cause breakage.

by thick do u mean curly? if so, i would play up that natural definition. try spiral curls, which need no heat, or braid your hair tightly and then loosen it for soft waves. when its hot and u r trying to dress it up, u can rock big buns a la fashion week in ny. as far as growth, always, always deep condition, at least once a week, make sure u get trims, moisturize ur scalp, but not w/ a heavy pomade, try dr.miracles growth grease {if used right its great, not too much}. u can also take biotin, which is a protein. remember that hair is healthy when the balance b/t protein and moisture is maintained. don't slack on your vitamins, your water, or conditioning your hair and u should be fine.

Braids are great for thick hair, which is why Black women have styled our hair in braids for centuries, braids are versatile ,they protect the hair and they are soooo beautiful, thick, thin, raised or flat, intricate styles.......
